The Hardest Part of Graduation Is Learning to Let Go

Graduation comes every year. And yet, it never feels routine. You watch these young people walk in with bright faces, full of excitement, perhaps a little nervous, perhaps not yet fully aware of how much life is about to change. Some of them have been part of the school for years. You have seen them grow, find their voice, make mistakes, recover, learn, and slowly become the people standing before you today.

And then comes the moment when they leave the familiar world of school behind. New cities. New countries. New people. New choices. It is a proud moment, but also an emotional one. There is always a quiet concern, almost like a parent wondering whether they are ready for all that lies ahead.

But perhaps that is not the question. The question is whether we are ready to trust them. We have given them values. We have given them confidence. We have given them a place where they learned not only from books, but from friendships, challenges, responsibilities and everyday life.

Now, they must find their own way. They may not get everything right immediately. None of us did. They will hesitate, change direction, fall, begin again, and eventually settle into the lives they are meant to build. Looking at those bright faces, I felt more than pride. I felt hope.

Because the world they are stepping into may be uncertain, but these young people carry within them more strength than they probably realise. Our role now is not to hold them back. It is to believe in them, and let them go.
